According to law, each birth must be registered at the responsible register office (the Bureau of Vital Statistics) within one week.

Authentication

The following original documents are required for authentication (foreign documents may require certification/apostille):

Children of Married Parents:

• Marriage certificate of parents
• Birth certificates of mother and father
• Citizenship certificates (passport in case of foreign citizenship)
• Where applicable, proof of academic title
• Confirmation of residence (only if primary residence not in Austria)

Children of Unmarried Parents:

• Birth certificates of mother and father
• Citizenship certificates (passport in case of foreign citizenship)
• Where applicable, proof of academic title
• Confirmation of residence (only if primary residence not in Austria)
